Anthony Mandler is a director whose work spans commercials, music videos, and feature films. A USC School of Cinematic Arts graduate, he began as a celebrity portrait photographer for GQ, Esquire, Rolling Stone, and Entertainment Weekly, shooting David Beckham, Heath Ledger, LeBron James, and Eminem. He transitioned to directing music videos in the late 1990s, helming 15-16 Rihanna videos including "Diamonds" and "Disturbia," Lana Del Rey's cinematic trilogy ("National Anthem," "Ride," "Tropico"), and work for Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Jay-Z, Drake, and The Weeknd. In advertising, Mandler directed campaigns for Nike, Apple, Procter & Gamble, NFL, Adidas, Cadillac, and Mercedes-Benz. His Apple Music "Taylor vs. Treadmill" campaign became a viral phenomenon; his P&G "The Look" spot won the 2019 Clio for Best Direction and an Emmy. He made his feature debut with "Monster" (2018), which premiered at Sundance and starred Kelvin Harrison Jr., Jennifer Hudson, and Jeffrey Wright. His Western thriller "Surrounded" (2023) featured Letitia Wright and Jamie Bell. He also directed concert films for Jonas Brothers and Usher.
