A classically trained painter and sculptor who transitioned through Royal Opera Stockholm set design and music industry art direction, Nilsson blends theatrical composition, casting charisma, and sonic-visual invention. He directed Volvo Trucks' 2013 viral phenomenon "The Epic Split" featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme, which won two Cannes Lions Grand Prix, a D&AD Black Pencil, The One Show Best of Show, four International ANDY golds, and Eurobest Film Grand Prix—later named by the Gunn Report among the top twenty ads of the 21st century. Named most-awarded director worldwide in 2014 by Ad Age, he has won the DGA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Commercials twice (2015, 2025) and earned a 2023 Cannes Film Grand Prix for Apple's "R.I.P. Leon." Nilsson's repeat collaborations include Apple (multiple 2023–2025 campaigns), Uber Eats (Super Bowl LVII), Tubi, Hennessy (with Teyana Taylor and Damson Idris), Andrex (2024 Cannes winner), and Virgin Media, alongside Super Bowl work for Etsy.
