Bio & background

Andrea Arnold is an Oscar-winning British writer-director working with Park Pictures for commercial work in the US and UK. She won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for 'Wasp' and has earned three Cannes Jury Prizes for 'Red Road' (2006), 'Fish Tank' (2009), and 'American Honey' (2016). Arnold graduated from the American Film Institute Conservatory in 1991 and built a two-decade career in auteur filmmaking before entering the commercial space. Her first brand work came in 2017 with the Prince's Trust charity campaign 'Youth Can Do It', which won British Arrow and Creative Circle Awards. The spot featured 16-year-old poet Maya Sourie and youth choir Inner Voices, with Arnold casting participants from the charity's community and filming in their own homes. She directed all seven episodes of HBO's 'Big Little Lies' Season 2 and episodes of 'Transparent' and 'I Love Dick'. Arnold's documentary 'Cow' premiered at Cannes in 2021, and her latest feature 'Bird' competed for the Palme d'Or in 2024. She received the Carrosse d'Or award at Cannes 2024 and was appointed OBE in 2011. Arnold is known for casting non-professional actors, shooting chronologically, working with authentic locations, and allowing improvisation to shape performances. She frequently returns to her hometown of Dartford, Kent for projects.
