Bio & background

Alex Russell is a writer-director who joined Arts & Sciences in early 2026, bringing a cinematic sensibility honed through acclaimed television work and his feature film debut. Russell won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series as writer and supervising producer on Netflix and A24's "Beef." On FX's "The Bear," he wrote the widely acclaimed episode "Forks," earning a WGA Award nomination. He also served as staff writer on FX's "Dave" and producer on Hulu's "Interior Chinatown." In 2025, Russell made his feature directorial debut with "Lurker," a psychological thriller that premiered at Sundance before being acquired by MUBI for theatrical release. The film earned him a DGA Award nomination for Best First-Time Theatrical Feature, a Gotham Award nomination, and four Independent Spirit Award nominations. Arts & Sciences produced "Lurker," which Russell shot on 16mm film with cinematographer Patrick Scola. His first commercial work was the "Desert Diner" spot for Cash App, promoting the F1 VCARB team and Tortoise Card, featuring country music star Shaboozey and Barstool Sports personality Caleb Pressley. Russell's directorial approach emphasizes performance-driven narratives, moral ambiguity, and character complexity.
