Bio & background

Alan White is a London-born, Australia-raised commercial and feature director based in the U.S. and rostered at Bob Industries, where he partnered in 2005. He began as a writer—winning Rock Australia Magazine’s Writers Contest and an Advertising Federation of Australia Graduate Scholarship—then copywrote for Coke and Levi’s before music videos for acts such as Hunters & Collectors pulled him behind the camera. His Homer Hudson campaign earned a Rolling Stone “Who’s Hot” mention. In Australia he co-founded BLACK; he later relocated as a founding director of @radical.media. Concrete commercial credits include Chevy (Center Of The World; World Playlist), McDonald’s (Approval Rating), Oregon Lottery (Mattress; Clapper), Bing (Before & After), Recoil (Striker’s World, 2017), Institute of Aging, Expedia, Mitsubishi, and Nike. White describes most of his spots as comedy built on a realist “how would this be if this was for real?” approach. Roster and bio materials credit Cannes Lions, CLIOs, and identify him as the first director to receive an Emmy for an outstanding commercial. Features include Erskineville Kings (Hugh Jackman), Risk (Toronto), Broken, Lionsgate’s Reclaim (John Cusack, Ryan Phillippe), and the documentary The Life and Death of Westerly Windina (Best Documentary, 2024 London Surf Film Awards).
